APC Aspirant for Chairman, Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State
Introduction:
Fellow citizens of Yakurr LGA, I stand before you as Eld Barr Ofem Obeten Mbang, from Ntan ward in Ekori a dedicated and passionate member of our community, ready to serve as your Chairman. My background as a Barrister, Police Officer who served as Administrator, Staff Officer Intelligence, State Command Officer in Charge of the Legal and Prosecution Department, etc, Private Legal Practitioner, and Notary Public for Nigeria equipped me with the unique skills to lead our local government with Integrity, Honesty, Experience, Accountability, and Transparency.
Together, we can build a brighter future for Yakurr.
My vision is grounded in core values that resonate deeply with the needs and aspirations of our people. I am a committed, inclusive, and forward-thinking Local Government Area where every voice is heard and valued.
1. Integrity: The cornerstone of leadership. It is the unwavering commitment to uphold ethical standards and act as your Chairman, I will prioritize integrity in all decisions of respect and responsibility, ensuring that actions align.
Integrity is the foundation of effective leadership. As your Chairman, I commit to fostering an environment that values honesty and ethical behavior at all levels of government.
I will challenge corruption and ensure that all actions taken by the local government are above reproach. My vision is to create a government that serves the people with unwavering commitment and respect.
2. Honesty: A Pillar of Communication
Honesty fosters trust and strengthens relationships within our Local Government Area, Ofem Obeten Mbang further pledge to maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders—citizens, LGA leaders, and organizations. By being transparent about our goals, challenges, and progress, I will cultivate a spirit of collaboration that empowers individuals to share their ideas and concerns freely. Together, we will create a dialogue that informs and inspires.
3. Experience: Guiding Our Future.
With many years as a Police officer, Barrister, Legal Practitioner, and Community service experience person, I bring a wealth of knowledge to the table.
This experience has equipped me with the tools to navigate complex issues and drive meaningful change by implementing sustainable policies that address the unique needs of you my people of Yakurr.
My understanding of local governance will enable me to advocate for resources and services that enhance the quality of life for all residents. I understand the complexities of law enforcement, community safety, and legal matters. This expertise will guide my decisions as Chairman, allowing me to create programs that not only work to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the local government but also promote cooperation and understanding among us.
4. Accountability:
The Heart of Leadership
Accountability ensures that leaders are responsible for their actions and decisions. As it is crucial for effective governance, I will hold myself and my team accountable for our actions and decisions.
I will commit to establishing mechanisms that hold my administration accountable to the people of Yakurr.
By setting clear goals, showing performance metrics and regularly reporting on our progress, I will ensure that our initiatives align with local government area expectations, as I ensure that every initiative undertaken by the local government is aimed at improving the lives of our people.
Your feedback will be valuable as we work together to achieve our shared vision. I envision a government that responds swiftly to your needs and takes responsibility for its actions.
5. Transparency: Building a Culture of Openness, Transparency is essential in fostering trust and engagement within our Local Government, we will build trust between the government and the people.
As Chairman, I will ensure that all processes, from budget allocation, government operations, financial allocations, and decision-making processes to project implementation, are accessible to the people.
I will implement policies that allow you, the citizens of Yakurr, to have access to information about
Regular town hall meetings and outreach programs, I will always keep our citizens informed about ongoing projects and plans. I believe that an informed Local Government Area is an empowered Local Government Area, and I will strive to create a culture of openness.
Key Initiatives of Ofem Obeten Mbang
1. Community Safety and Security
I will prioritize the safety of our communities by enhancing collaboration between the local government and law enforcement agencies. We will implement community policing initiatives that encourage residents to engage with officers constructively, fostering trust and cooperation.
Every community in Yakurr will have a Vigilante group to help watch our boundaries from Herdsmen and other Nonyakurr communities from entering, and our border communities like Ugep, Nko, Agoi, and Assiga will be on the lookout for safety.
I will collaborate with Security agencies and community vigilante groups to ensure adequate security of lives and property within the Yakurr Local Government Area
2. Youth Empowerment and Education
Investing in our youth is vital for the future of Yakurr. I will advocate for programs that provide vocational training, skills acquisition, scholarships, and mentorship opportunities, empowering, Resources/ Inputs to people who have skills but can’t access resources and materials.
Yakurr Arts Gallery and Entrepreneurship Summit were Products and Services by the youths that can be shown to the world.
Education will be accessible and relevant to the needs of our community. To restore bursaries for Yakurr Students in various fields of study and scholarships for students
3. Economic Development
I will work tirelessly to attract investments to Yakurr, creating job opportunities and boosting local businesses. By promoting agriculture, tourism, and small-scale enterprises, we can stimulate economic growth and enhance the quality of life for all residents.
4. Healthcare Access
Healthcare is a fundamental human right. My administration will focus on improving healthcare facilities and services, ensuring that every citizen has access to quality medical care. We will prioritize maternal and child health initiatives and promote health education across the community.
In communities like Agoi Ekpo, Agoi Ibami, Inyima, Assiga, and I Mkpani we will build Hospitals where we can converse for young Doctors to work there.
5. Environmental Sustainability
Protecting our environment is crucial for future generations. I will endorse policies that promote clean energy, waste management, and conservation efforts for our natural resources while fostering economic development.
I will provide waste bins across every household and business owner where by the weekend, a dispatch truck vehicle will drive across locations to carry refuse.
Our Urban sanitation every month will take a different dimension as our staff will be well taken care of.
We will plant trees by the roadside for beautification, plant flowers at strategic locations, open fields for engagements, and open leisure park in Ugep, Nko, Ekori, Mkpani, Assiga, Nyima, Assiga, and Idomi for activities for our people.
6. Infrastructure Development: Improve market buildings, stores, town halls, rebrand court buildings, solar borehole projects to distress communities, build Public Toilets, and maintenance of our roads to enhance the quality of life for all citizens. Build a market structure for our people across the council wards.
7. Education Empowerment: Increase access to quality education and vocational training to prepare our youth for the future. Award scholarships to best secondary school students, organize yearly inter-school competitions such as quizzes, debate, and essay competitions, give out free jamb registration forms and follow up with their education, and organize social and sporty events for our students. Secondary school sports festival.
8. Agricultural Advancement: Support local farmers through training, grants, and access to markets, ensuring food security and boosting our economy. Getting access to soft loans for agriculture, empowering cooperatives and various groups to go into agricultural activities. Provide seeds, seedlings, stem cuttings, fertilizers, Pesticides, and other inputs that will increase our agricultural productivity.
9. Sustaining Our Gains: We will maintain our existing structures and the new ones we will be putting together. We can’t labor in vain and allow things to go wrong and work itself.
