Yesterday, September 1, 2023, the Malabor Republic experienced a distressing breach by unidentified armed groups, as reported by an anonymous eyewitness, the incident occurred a few minutes before 9 pm.
Our correspondent obtained information from an eyewitness who stated, \”After the armed robbers successfully seized several students\’ phones outside Hall 4, they proceeded to enter the hostel (Hall 4) to continue their activities.\” The rooms targeted, as reported by the victims at the time of this report, were Room 228, 227, and 232, and the atmosphere was disrupted by the sound of guns.
This unfortunate incident has instilled fear among numerous students and business proprietors in the Republic.
Our correspondence further gathered that: the individuals affected by this distressing occurrence comprise students from various departments namely: Joshua Bassey from the Anatomy department, Bartolomeo Atekon from the Banking and Finance department, Offre Sharon from the Medicine department (CUMSA DOI Elect), Ekpendu Theophilus, Jeremiah Edet, and Chinonso Collins from Civil Engineering. The perpetrators of the incident made off with their mobile phones, laptops, and power banks.
An anonymous eyewitness shared with our correspondent that \”some of the robbers were wearing masks, and we were unable to take any action as they had firearms pointed at us.\”
The school security personnel arrived at the scene, but the perpetrators had already fled hastily before their arrival.
The Student Union Government (SUG) President strongly denounced the assault on Malabites. He addressed the victims and discussed the path forward, reassuring them to stay composed as they implement strategic measures to prevent a repeat of such incidents.
