Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Nursing, recently visited Catholic Maternity Hospital Moniaya, Ogoja to assess the quality of nursing care and the training of students from the College of Nursing, Ogoja.
During his visit, Mr. Coco-Bassey emphasized the importance of effective nursing care and highlighted key areas for improvement. He commended the Catholic Maternity Hospital Moniaya management for their collaboration in training nursing students and assured them that Governor Bassey Otu remains committed to supporting private hospitals.
He stressed the need for consistent use of nursing care plans, the adoption of the upgraded World Health Organization (WHO) partograph for maternal labor, the employment of qualified nurses and midwives, and the prioritization of staff welfare, including the timely renewal of nursing licenses.
Mr. Coco-Bassey reaffirmed the government’s commitment, stating, “The Governor is committed to supporting private hospitals, as some government staff still work with these facilities. We will continue to collaborate to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Cross River State.”
The Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Ede Dominic, who represented the Hospital Administrator, Rev Fr Joe Marcus expressed gratitude for the visit. He acknowledged the government’s support and commitment to improving healthcare services, stating that the hospital would strengthen its collaboration with the government and the College of Nursing to ensure quality training and healthcare services.
The hospital also assured that staff welfare packages would be regularly reviewed in line with the state’s conditions of service for civil servants.
Mr. Coco-Bassey was accompanied by Mrs. Francisca Njagu, Head of the Midwifery Department at Moniaya Campus of College of Nursing Ogoja along with other senior lecturers. The team toured the hospital’s facilities, guided by the Medical Superintendent.
The visit underscores the Cross River State Government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services and nursing care. With continued collaboration between the government and private hospitals where students used for clinical experience, the state is well-positioned to provide high-quality healthcare to its residents.
