Young Lawyers Appreciates Senator for ₦23.85M Call to Bar Grant

 

A delegation of over 15 young lawyers from across the Rivers East Senatorial District has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Distinguished Senator (Chief) Allwell Onyesoh, DSSRS, JP, FIBAKM for his generous ₦23.85 million Call to Bar grant. Representing the 159 beneficiaries of the 2025 Young Lawyers Class, the delegation visited the Senator at his National Assembly office in Abuja on Wednesday.

Each beneficiary had earlier received ₦150,000 to cover expenses related to their Call to Bar ceremonies held from July 8 to 10, 2025 including the purchase of wigs, gowns, and other essential materials. Initially supporting 108 graduates, the program was later expanded to accommodate an additional 51 beneficiaries, following further interventions by the treasure-based Senator.

In his response, Senator Onyesoh emphasized that the initiative was driven by a personal commitment to youth empowerment. Reflecting on his own journey, he highlighted the transformative impact of timely support, stating: “For me, it is money well spent. I didn’t do this for thanks or recognition—I did it because I believe it’s the right thing to do.”

He encouraged the new lawyers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and to strive for excellence, urging them to pursue the legal profession with dedication and purpose.

Barr. Godswill Oyegbu, head of the delegation, conveyed the beneficiaries’ profound gratitude. He noted that the grant had covered not only ceremonial costs but also transportation and other essential expenses. He further mentioned that many recipients had previously benefited from Senator Onyesoh’s ₦6.7 million Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) grant.

Another delegate, Barr. Wele Promise Tochukwu from Ikwerre LGA, praised Senator Onyesoh as a “selfless representative” and a “mirror of society.” He commended the Senator’s legislative contributions, infrastructure development initiatives, and efforts to provide pensionable jobs for constituents an achievements the group described as unprecedented in the history of the Senatorial District.

Barr. Azunda Blessing from Obio/Akpor LGA recounted her personal experience, sharing how previous fundraising efforts had failed, and how the Senator’s grant proved to be a lifesaver for her and her peers.

Similarly, Barr. Abbey Kalio Boma from Okrika commended the Senator’s commitment to human capacity development and prayed for God’s continued strength and guidance in his life.

The group presented a thank-you plaque to him and offered prayers for his continued protection and success.
